Auction glossaryFNSKU: What Amazon's X00 Barcode Means
An FNSKU, or Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit, is the barcode Amazon assigns to track a specific seller's product inside its fulfillment centers. Seller-applied FNSKUs usually start with X00 and appear on a white sticker on the packaging. The code ties the unit to both the product and the seller who sent it in.
FNSKU vs UPC vs ASIN: what's the difference?
Three codes often appear on the same box.
- UPC: the manufacturer's barcode, the same on every unit of that product.
- ASIN: Amazon's catalog number for the product page, usually starting with B0.
- FNSKU: Amazon's warehouse label for one seller's units of that product, usually starting with X00.
Why do FNSKU stickers matter at liquidation auctions?
Amazon returns and overstock often reach auction still wearing X00 stickers, sometimes with no other readable barcode. Matching the sticker to its product tells you what the item is, which makes it possible to list and price a load item by item instead of trusting the manifest alone.
Sellers (auction houses) on Auktia can scan an X00 sticker and the item fills in, with unlimited scanning as an add-on at $125 a month. See X00 FNSKU lookup.
Questions people ask
Is an FNSKU the same as an ASIN?
Not always. When a seller uses the manufacturer's barcode, Amazon tracks the unit by its ASIN; when the seller labels units itself, the FNSKU is a separate X00 code.
Why does my item have an X00 sticker?
It passed through an Amazon fulfillment center as a third-party seller's inventory. Returned or unsold units often keep the sticker when they're liquidated.
